The MotoGP™ World Championship – the pinnacle of motorcycle Grand Prix racing – marched onto the slick Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya asphalt for round nine of the current campaign. The journey from the fast-paced climes of Mugello in Italy to the scorching speed of the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya in northern Spain was a short one for MotoGP in what was a busy week of racing and activity and in bright summer weather.

The motorcycle-mad region of the world saw passionate fans gather around the 4.7km course with 14 corners of varying design and demand: from the heavy braking of Turns 1 and 10 to the sweeping speed and lines of Turns 3, 13 and 14.

The oppressive heat made life difficult for the riders and tested their fitness and concentration but the slippery nature of the Catalan track surface also meant that managing their traction and tyre life were other important skills.

Friday was a mixed start for the CFMOTO Racing PruestelGP riders with #99 Carlos Tatay and #43 Xavier Artigas. And the positions P18 and P21 in qualifying also dampened expectations. The feeling of the bike and the track was not the best. The focus was now on the race and before that on further improvements in the warm-up. Carlos Tatay and Xavier Artigas have shown during the season that they can compete for the podium.

The beginning of the two CFMOTO pilots was a bit cautious in the first laps, but then the race to catch up began and the feeling for the track got better from lap to lap. Halfway through the race, several riders crashed at Turn 10. Tatay and Artigas were able to dodge, but lost important seconds and the front group was able to push away in the meantime. With dedication and hard work, the two Spaniards fought their way back to the front group and crossed the finish line deservedly in P06 (CT) and P10 (XA).

Carlos Tatay remains poised in 9th in the championship standings. Artigas, who bounced back from a tricky day in Italy last week, is now 11th. CFMOTO Racing PruestelGP are up to 4th in the Team’s Championship.

In two weeks, MotoGP™ travels to Germany at the Sachsenring, the team’s Home-Grand-Prix (17-19/06) and then to the famous TT Circuit Assen in Holland (24-26/06) before entering a one-month summer hiatus.

#99 Carlos Tatay I P06

“Not a bad race considering how far back we started on the grid. My first lap was not so good and I lost some positions. It meant I had to recover a lot but in the end my feeling was great, especially on the bike. We know our weak points and we need to improve but 6th position is not so bad here this weekend.”

#43 Xavier Artigas I P10

“I’m quite happy with that position but also because I had a good feeling again on the track and could get near the front group again. I enjoyed the race! Even if it was tough because of the heat. Anyway, we’ll look to more of the same when we get to Germany.”
